Superior Maker Fest 2023

  • Houghton High School 1603 Gundlach Road Houghton, MI, 49931 United States (map)

Superior Fab Lab, a local non-profit (501 (c)(3)), is gearing up to hold its first annual ‘Superior MakerFest’. This event is aimed to connect our community TO our community; through the sharing of inventions and creations made right here in the Copper Country. Attendees will have an opportunity to learn about STEM-based makers, compete in making competitions, learn about local STEM-based clubs, and more! It is through this event and others like it that we can increase interest in STEM, build a community that spans across both ages and experience levels, and raise funds to support future events that serve our community, our friends, and neighbors. Join us!

This year’s theme: Elements of Making

What does this mean? It means that we will focus on five elemental types of making:

Textiles, Wood, Electronics, Plastic, and Metal

What is a Maker Fest?

A Maker Fest is a gathering of people interested in creating new things with their hands and minds. We’re putting a spotlight on all the innovations and creativity that Yoopers pour into their creations.

Sign up and Compete!

Calling all Makers! We want YOU to participate in one of our five categories:

TEXTILES – Have you made some interesting clothing, woven something unique, etc.? This is your time to share your creation!

WOOD – Have you built a cool bird house, cat house, or mouse house? A cutting board? Anything that involves…well…wood.

ELECTRONICS – Have you created some unique Internet of Things device that involves using a breadboard, circuit board, Arduino, or Raspberry Pi?

PLASTIC – This could be something you designed and printed in a 3D Printer – OR something you made with Legos, or both! Share with us your creation.

METAL – What have you forged, bent, heated, or sharpened? Show us!

There will be two awards for each Competition. One from our competition Judges and another identified by event attendees (audience choice).

As we get closer to the event, more details will be forthcoming – be sure to check that your email address is correct!
