All applications for the David Wiitanen and Slim McLean Memorial Youth Hockey, Joe Freed Empowerment, and Kellogg Youth Endowment funds are due no later than Monday, March 20. The foundation’s three spring grants range from $3,000 to $10,000 in total. The Keweenaw Area Community Foundation plans to award the spring round of grants sometime in May.

David Wiitanen and Slim McLean Youth Hockey Fund has helped youth hockey teams from Houghton and Keweenaw counties afford travel expenses for tournaments, goalie equipment, new uniforms and even training for referees.

The Joe Freed Empowerment Fund supports projects that empower individuals with mental or physical disabilities, and targets barriers to transportation.

The Kellogg Youth Endowment Fund awards funds to organizations working directly with youth in Houghton and Keweenaw counties, and is granted with the help of Youth Advisory Council, to ensure local youth can express their thoughts on where those funds have the most impact.

The spring round of Keweenaw Area Community Foundation Grant are due March 20. Applications can be found on the organization’s website, here. The foundation has even including some grant writing tips for those who seeking to improve their application’s chances. Those tips can be found, here.
