Hancock Trails Club purchases new, more effective groomer
The Hancock Trails Club (HTC) (formerly the Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club) has purchased a new ski grooming implement called a Ginzu manufactured by Yellowstone Track Systems. This groomer smooths and compacts a wider path than HTC’s old groomer while setting ski tracks, allowing HTC to groom the trails faster and with better results.
The purchase was made with funds from our membership revenue, business sponsors, donations, and a generous grant from the Community Foundation of the Upper Peninsula through their Upper Peninsula Sustainable Forest and Wildlife Fund (CFUP-UPSFWF).
In the Hancock area, the HTC provides approximately 25 km (15.5 miles) of groomed Nordic ski trails and another 26 KM (16 miles) of mountain biking and hiking trails. All these trails are known as the Maasto Hiihto/Churning Rapids trails, with trails starting at the Hancock Driving Park trailhead or alternatively at the Tomasi Road trailhead next to the Hancock Department of Public Works.
The CFUP-UPSFWF is located in Escanaba and semi-annually grants funds to many projects throughout the UP. The HTC appreciates this grant, which made this purchase possible, and looks forward to many years of grooming with this implement.
