CANCELED: Chain Gang: Fat-tire bikes race Hancock Trails “SNOWDURO” in 2 weeks

Snowduro Canceled

Okay Winter 2024, we give up, you win…

We tried to shift gears and turn the Snowduro into a Fatbike event. We thought, ‘surely if we don’t have snow we will have frozen ground, and that will be fun to race bikes on.’ We were mistaken.

With a week-ahead forecast that calls for melt, freeze, rain and thaw, we have made the unfortunate decision to cancel the Snowduro 2024. We will practice what we preach and avoid use during this freeze-thaw season, when trails are especially prone to damage.  We encourage other trail users to do the same.  The club will be posting signage at access points to help educate and remind users of the damage that can occur during this season.

We truly appreciate our participants, volunteers, and sponsors!! Thank you to all for your support. Participants will be contacted within the week for refund options. Hopefully, both winter weather and the Snowduro will return in 2025!!

Previous Announcement:

HANCOCK, Michigan (March 6, 2023) — Get ready for an adrenaline-fueled Keweenaw adventure with the Hancock Trails Club on Saturday, March 16 with the returning Snowduro. This exhilarating challenge will take riders on trails like Aunt Flo, Pow Pow, Finney Creek and more by fat-tire bike.

Group Ride Enduro Format:

Participants will ride most of the course together, fostering a sense of community and camaraderie. This allows riders unfamiliar with the course to just enjoy the trails without the stress of trying to navigate an unknown system. Only staged portions of the course will be timed/competitive for riders.

Hancock Trails Club Energy:

The club has witnessed a surge in energy, transitioning from a Nordic skiing-focused organization to a year-round trails club. Recent improvements to Maasto Hiihto, funded through community support, have made the trails more accessible. The club aims to highlight the trails as a valuable community resource and attract more visitors to the Keweenaw region.

Snow or Dirt, the Show Goes On:

The Snowduro will take place regardless of snow conditions. Whether the trails are covered by a white blanket or if riders take on frozen dirt during March in the Keweenaw – the show will go on. The club will continue to monitor course conditions to ensure a safe race day.

Sign up now to reserve your spot! Spaces will be limited. The enduro begins at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, March 16.

Fundraising for Trail Preservation:

The Snowduro is a fundraiser for the Hancock Trails Club and its grooming operations. The event aims to introduce more people to the trails and the sport of fat-tire biking. The funds raised will contribute to the maintenance and enhancement of the system, ensuring its continued availability for the community and visitors.

About Hancock Trails Club:

Formerly the Keweenaw Nordic Ski Club, the Hancock Trails Club is a community-driven 501(c)(3) organization dedicated to promoting silent sports for both youth and adults. It provides stewardship of the Maasto Hiihto and Churning Rapids trails in Hancock, Michigan.
