Noteworthy, Yooperleles Together at Dec. 3 Holiday Concert

HANCOCK--Noteworthy invites everyone to come celebrate the season Sunday, Dec. 3, at its upcoming concert, "A Very Merry Noteworthy Holiday," set for 2 p.m. at Church of the Resurrection. The chorus will be joined by the Yooperleles.

“There’s a lot of variety in this program: songs that are fun and upbeat, and those that remind us of the true meaning of the season,” said Noteworthy director Joan Petrelius. “And we're so pleased to have the Yooperleles joining us.”

The only women’s barbershop chorus in the region, Noteworthy is recognized for its intricate, a cappella harmonies and fun, accessible melodies. The Yooperleles are a lighthearted, all-ukelele community band under the direction of Mark Plichta.

The program ranges from the humorous--"The Biggest Moose I Ever Saw”--to devout songs of the season, including "Mary Did You Know," recorded by Wynonna Judd and Kenny Rogers in 1996. The Yooperleles will join Noteworthy in the contemporary classic "Heaven Everywhere," by songwriters Ben Glover and Francesca Battistelli.

Admission is free. Noteworthy takes a free-will offering for local charities during its concerts, and at this concert the beneficiary will be Baraga-Houghton-Keweenaw Community Action Agency. The agency is a private nonprofit which provides a wide variety of services to qualifying local residents, including a food bank, bus service, home care, weatherization and more.

Noteworthy will be welcoming new members in 2024 and invites all women who enjoy singing to come to the concert for an introduction to barbershop music. For more information, contact Petrelius at noteworthychorus@gmail.com.
