HOUGHTON — Don’t miss Jibba Jabba, a professional snowboarding event in downtown Houghton on Saturday, Feb. 17 @ 6 p.m. The best rider overall for men and women will win a $1,000+ cash purse each. This year Red Bull is back, bringing the party with speakers, a party car and plenty of energy drinks. Riders will rip the manmade snow course on Huron Street all evening. Lakeshore Drive will be closed for the event and packed over with snow for trick features. The course stretches from Shelden Avenue to the pier.
Jibba Jabba returns in its second year now following a ten-year hiatus that halted the event in 2013. Come early Friday night and meander down to Lakeshore Drive to see the construction of the course. Jibba Jabba returned thanks to the passion of Jenn and Dustin Reed, owners of Minnie Farms. The two love the snow sports industry and helped bring this event together with the city.
The trick course is perfect for professional riders to take on and put on a show for the crowd. It’s designed by Dustin Reed, who gets the hill features built with the help of Houghton public works and other volunteers. The City of Houghton helps coordinate the construction, helping bring in the snow and closing the road. Spectators are encouraged to line the sides of the path along Huron Street and the bottom of the course. Keep an eye out for the selfie station to snap a picture at Jibba Jabba. Police and medical professionals continue to be on standby for any potential injuries that may arise. Helmets are mandatory for riders.
Come to Jibba Jabba 2024 and watch some of the Midwest’s best snowboarders shred powder and grind rails. Bundle up and wear warm clothes to stay warm. Houghton is the apex destination for snowboarding/skiing in the U.P. and Jibba Jabba looks to prove that point. Feeling motivated to shred after Jibba Jabba? Enjoy prime conditions just across the Portage Canal at Mont Ripley Ski Area.
