“Grassroots Solar” discussion

Bill Bailey, president of the nonprofit, Cheq Bay Renewables, will discuss “Grassroots Solar” at a public forum sponsored by the Keweenaw Unitarian Universalist Fellowship at 10:30 a.m., Sunday, May 14.

Cheq Bay Renewables has successfully turned the unlikely snowbelt region of northern Wisconsin into a renewable energy hub and received multiple awards for their work. Learn how a simple grassroots organization with limited budget and resources successfully engaged with the community to implement multiple solar photovoltaics (PV) projects, advanced microgrid technology and now, electric vehicle charging infrastructure.

The group's current initiatives include microgrid development in local municipalities and tribes, energy
tracking to meet carbon reduction goals, solar PV development, and electric vehicle education and infrastructure implementation.

Cheq Bay Renewables was recognized by RENEW WI in January 2019 as a 2018 Renewable Energy Champion for the 2018 Solar Group Buy--the largest in
Wisconsin’s history--and in 2021 with the Wisconsin Rural Partners’ 2021 Top Rural Development Initiative award for community solar projects implemented in Bayfield
and Washburn, Wisconsin.

Bailey's talk will include a deep dive into the mechanics of renewable energy and a time for questions. Join by Zoom at https://us02web.zoom.us/j/83975762265?pwd=TC9BcStaTDF4dFZOU2ZsUHhZTERoUT09
