COPPER HARBOR — Join the Michigan Nature Association on Sunday, Aug. 27 from 2-4 p.m. for a celebration of the Estivant Pines 50th anniversary and upgraded trail dedication. Fellow fans of the Estivant Pines can see the newly improved trail, complete with new graveling, boardwalks and culverts. The Estivant Pines trailhead is located off Burma Road in Copper Harbor. Follow US-41 north and turn right on Second Street. You’ll follow Second Street for 1.2 miles and go left on Clark Mine Road. Take Clark Mine Road for another mile then turn right onto Burma Road. Look for a sign that says “E. Pines”. You’ll find the parking area and trailhead on the left.
Upgraded Trail Dedication and 50th Anniversary Celebration Schedule:
2 p.m. – Dedication and Ribbon Cutting
2:30 p.m. – GeoHeritage Walk with Erika Vye, Michigan Tech Geoscience Research Scientist
2-4 p.m. – Self-guided Forest “Leave it There” Scavenger Hunt
Refreshments and a free “Piece of the Pines” wooden branded souvenir will be provided to attendees to take home part of one of the Keweenaw’s most beautiful nature areas. Come to Copper Harbor to be with fellow nature enthusiasts and to enjoy the newly improved Estivant Pines Nature Sanctuary.
