TIME CHANGED TO 12:30 P.M.
Join women and their friends in towns and cities nationwide for a Women's March on Saturday, Jan. 20, at 1 p.m. in Houghton. We will gather at Bridgeview Park and walk across the Portage Lake Lift Bridge.
Seven years after the massive Women's March in Washington, DC, and our first local Women's March, we march again in 2024 for our freedom, families, and the future. Women’s voices and votes matter for so many issues, e.g., equal rights under the law (the ERA), reproductive choice, voting rights, equal pay, banned books, climate change, and responsible gun legislation. We especially celebrate the constitutional rights to women’s health care and abortion approved by Michigan voters in 2022, but our work is not done: so many other women around the US and the world do not have the same protections and rights to control their own bodies.
Bring a sign that showcases your issue. We want to send a loud and clear message in our community and across the U.S. that we will go forward, not backward, and that our voices and votes matter. We are ALL born free and equal in dignity and rights, irrespective of the state in which we live. Join us and marchers across the US with your presence and signs as we celebrate our progress and fight for our rights.
Please note: This is a non-partisan march, so there are no signs that mention particular political candidates, and there are no obscene signs.
