1 Million Cups

  • Continental Fire Co. 408 East Montezuma Avenue Houghton, MI, 49931 United States (map)

Our next 1 Million Cups session features two new presenters. As always, free coffee will be provided.

Our presenters this month are:

Adam Meckler of Gig Boss

Gig Boss is an organizational tool for freelance musicians and band leaders. Manage schedules, gig details, and finances all in one place. Though we originally imagined this for musicians, we currently have photographers and dance companies using the app. We imagine it could be used in many fields in the gig economy, though we haven't done much targeted advertising to this point in our development as a company.

Michal Ngala of Campus Connection

New students to Michigan Tech often times struggle to connect with people with similar interests during their first year on campus. There are too many platforms, cork boards, and websites to canvas. What if there was a simple platform aimed at connecting incoming and current students with their interests? Might this also be a great tool for attracting students TO Michigan Tech? Find out more about the software solution.

About 1 Million Cups

Created by the Kauffman Foundation, 1 Million Cups is a free entrepreneurial program designed to support entrepreneurs to connect and network within their own community for resources such as equipment, talent, space, and ideas. The audience listens to a pitch and then provides insight regarding new ways to think about one’s business and offers invaluable feedback from the customer and stakeholder perspective.

In keeping with the Kauffman vision, the atmosphere is supportive and friendly. 1 Million Cups dubs itself as more of a “dolphin tank” than a “shark tank.” Businesses that are younger than five years old are invited to apply to present.

1 Million Cups is a fun way to stay connected to community, think about innovative ideas, and to find out about and support entrepreneurship in our area. Events are free and open to the public. Coffee is provided.
