Rabbit Island Arts and Ecology Expedition open for applications

CALUMET — Rabbit Island School is a full-scholarship program where a group of up to 7 students join a team of 3 mentors on Rabbit Island—a 91-acre protected wilderness located 4 miles off the east coast of the Keweenaw Peninsula. The week-long expedition emphasizes student-led projects with mentors offering support and expertise that spans art, ecology, writing, wilderness crafts, and more. Together, the group practices active leadership and listenership, creating an island community that is fully immersed in a unique natural environment surrounded by Lake Superior. Past participants have spent their time reading, writing, painting, sketching, carving spoons, creating natural dyes from plants, cooking, fishing, hiking, identifying local flora and fauna, and more.

Dates of program: Wednesday, August 16 – Wednesday, August 23

Application deadline: End of day, Friday, June 30, 2023
