HANCOCK – The Keweenaw Community Foundation is excited to announce the establishment of a new endowment fund, the Reverend Robert and Deloris Langseth Development Fund, to honor the late Rev. Robert Langseth (affectionately known as “Pastor Bob”), his loving wife Deloris, and to support the mission and initiatives of Main Street Calumet.

Robert met the love of his life Deloris, and they were married in June 1954. Deloris is a retired teacher of Elementary students. Rev. Langseth was the pastor at Faith Lutheran church from 1965 until his retirement in 1998. Before his passing on October 17, 2023, Pastor Bob was involved in numerous local organizations and initiatives, and held a great passion for our community. Throughout his life he used his voice, championing for the sake of involvement, volunteerism and service.

Rev. Langseth was a founding member of the Keweenaw Community Foundation (KCF), and is in large part the reason the Foundation is here today. He was instrumental in the creation of the Keweenaw National Historical Park (KNHP) and the development of the endowment fund supporting the Keweenaw Heritage Center at St. Anne’s, which is also held at KCF.

Rev. Langseth also sat on the Main Street Calumet board of directors as the chair. The community has been blessed to have ‘Pastor Bob’ and Deloris as strong advocates and supporters.

“His positive attitude and fearless pursuit of progress was an inspiration. He was determined to plan for the future, to create long-term sustainability for the organization and encourage community members to participate in guiding redevelopment. Creation of the Reverend Robert and Deloris Langseth Development Fund is a fitting tribute to a couple who have been passionate about all things Calumet for the past 58 years“, said Main Street Calumet Executive Director, Leah Polzien.

Main Street Calumet is a community-based non-profit in Calumet, Michigan. It supports the preservation of historic buildings and invests in local pride; hosting a variety of new and innovative events. Through partnerships with local and regional economic development organizations, business development, and retention in Calumet and the surrounding area, Main Street Calumet is revitalizing the historic commercial district.

This fund will provide financial support to Main Street Calumet and its mission to promote, preserve, and develop Calumet and the surrounding communities while honoring the legacy of the late Reverend Robert Langseth and his surviving wife Deloris.
