Keweenaw Area Community Foundation provides free community meeting spaces
HANCOCK — The Keweenaw Area Community Foundation (KCF) announces the dedication of a free, community-accessible meeting space in the Portage Lake District Library (PLDL) and the KCF office in Hancock. The KCF sees the importance of having places for community collaborations and engagement and wants to make these types of spaces available for our community. Partnering with local organizations and businesses, KCF has been able to make efforts toward meeting this community need.
Portage Lake District Library - Meeting Rooms
The KCF has awarded the PLDL a $12,200.00 grant from the Community Impact Fund, supporting the construction of a community meeting space in the library. The Community Impact Fund provides funding for a variety of community projects or programs dedicated to collaborative approaches designed to maintain or improve the quality of life in the greater Keweenaw area. This room is dedicated on behalf of KCF to our community of lifelong learners and directly supports the community’s need for free and public, yet neutral and confidential meeting spaces. The PLDL has created several meeting rooms within the existing library on Huron Street in Houghton. Two new rooms were created in addition to the existing Community Room with a third planned:
Small Trailside Study Room - Maximum capacity of two people
Big Trailside Meeting Room - Eight-person meeting space
West-end Conference Room - Available October 23, 2023 - Maximum of 16 persons meeting space
Community Room - Maximum of 50 persons
Each of these spaces is free, open and available for public use. When these spaces in the library are not being used for library events, they may be used by the community during business hours. Reservation requests for these spaces may be submitted online using the PLDL reservation form on their website: pldl.org/meeting-rooms/ Or by calling the library at 906-482-4570. The library will contact the users with confirmation that the reservation is accepted.
KCF’s Office Space
KCF was also able to successfully adjust their Hancock office space to welcome community use. KCF was supported with this project through financial and in-kind donations from the following organizations: The Nature Conservancy of Michigan, Lahti Properties and Quality Hardware. Currently, there are two options at KCF for meeting spaces:
Community Room - Maximum capacity of 50 people and includes audiovisual (AV) equipment.
Meeting Room - Maximum capacity of 8 people. This room is a private meeting space, and also includes AV equipment.
Community members will be welcome to request use of the space for meetings, gatherings, or small events starting in October of 2023! Please contact KCF at mail@keweenawgives.org with your request details to schedule your meeting or event. At this time, meeting space availability is on a first-come, first-served basis.
