Husky Eats to host food demos at Houghton Farmers Market
From the Ground Farmers Market Collective is excited to announce the participation of MTU Husky Eats at the Houghton Farmers Market this summer. From June 11 to August 6, Husky Eats - run by Chartwells Higher Education, the dining services leaders at MTU- will host a food demo booth every Tuesday from 3-6 p.m. This initiative aims to connect the university's talented chefs with the local community, offering culinary insights, demonstrations, and delicious food samples.
Amanda Jackson, Marketing Manager for Husky Eats, emphasizes the importance of community engagement for their chefs: “Our chefs love talking about food and sharing their passion for cooking with others. During the school year, our chefs are focused on crafting delicious meals for the campus community across our three dining halls and catering, while during summer break, they can shift their focus to providing more educational opportunities to share cooking tips and techniques with the community. They look forward to helping you change up your weekly menu any way they can!”
The Husky Eats team boasts four amazing chefs eager to share their culinary expertise. Each week at the market, they will demonstrate essential skills such as chopping techniques, offer recipe cards, recommend flavor pairings, and provide free samples of new and tasty dishes.
Visitors to the Houghton Farmers Market can take advantage of this unique opportunity to interact with the chefs directly. Jackson encourages market-goers to engage with the chefs in person or on social media: “Our chefs welcome all culinary-related questions! You might ask what spice blends they recommend for broccoli or a preferred cooking technique to try on a new meat item you purchased at the market. They are there as a resource to the community, and there are no bad questions—just ask!”
