Angel Mission and partners distribute $13,000 in winter clothing
Copper Country Angel Mission is already preparing for the 2024/25 Coat the Copper Country winter outerwear distribution, courtesy of a $2500 grant from the Portage Health Auxiliary. We recently purchased winter clothing at discounted off-season prices, using part of the generous grant, to be packed away for next fall.
The Angel Mission free store (in Calumet) will give away these winter coats, snow pants, gloves, hats and boots to local residents in need through the Coat the Copper Country program starting in mid-October. Angel Mission volunteers also will work with the schools to identify students needing winter wear. We will post the beginning of Coat the Copper Country 2024 on our website, ccangelmission.org, and our Facebook Group page in September.
Walmart was a partner in Coat the Copper Country Program 2023, providing financial assistance and special pricing for clearance items. We had help from many other local businesses, from hosting donation collection cans and gently-used outerwear collection boxes to contributing hundreds of dollars worth of new winter outerwear. Area churches also helped, as well as other philanthropic organizations. The value of winter clothing distributed in 2023 was about $13,000, all of which was obtained through the generosity of individuals, organizations and businesses.
Copper Country Angel Mission thanks Portage Health Auxiliary for the grant, which gives us an early start to preparing for our fall program, and Walmart for their support. With the kindness and caring of our Copper Country community, we are able to help those in need. We look forward to another extraordinary Coat the Copper Country program in 2024.
