Adaptive athletes to compete in 48th Annual Canal Run
HANCOCK — The highly anticipated 48th Annual Canal Run takes place on July 15 and if you haven’t yet – it’s time to start training! The race is a celebration of community, health and the stunning Keweenaw Peninsula, but it’s also a testament to inclusivity. This year, organizers are proud to highlight the participation of adaptive athletes, who will compete along with runners and walkers in the Canal Run.
Canal Run embraces diversity and is an environment where all can thrive. In addition to traditional runs and walks, Canal Run offers dedicated adaptive races. Athletes may compete in a Half Marathon Wheelchair Race or the 5 Mile Blade Run (for single or double amputees). These competitions showcase the incredible athleticism and determination of adaptive athletes.
Inclusive race options coincide with the Accessible Keweenaw Initiative, which is a community-led effort to enhance access for all mobility-levels to the Keweenaw’s outdoors, cultural amenities and historical points of interest.
Canal Run is well-known for its scenic course, tracing the picturesque Portage Canal back to town from McLain State Park, depending on your race. Volunteers play an important role putting on Canal Run each year.
Consider volunteering with Canal Run this year to help the event go smoothly. If you’re competing, be sure to register to save your spot.
Registration and bib pickup is on Friday, July 14 from 3-8 p.m. on the Quincy Green in Hancock. You can also pick up your bib from 6-8:45 a.m. on Saturday, July 15 from Church of the Resurrection in Hancock.
